YUAA has been holding a series of workshops related to this year’s projects.
The Advanced UAV and Radio Telescope project leaders, Thomas Ryan and Devin Cody, hosted an electronics workshop on September 21st. In attendance were about 20 new YUAA members who learned basic electronic skills, including information about op-amps, low-pass filters, currents, circuits, and more. These will prove to be useful skills in various domains of this year’s projects.
The first workshop, held on September 24th, was a great success. The room was packed full with over twenty people ready to learn about SolidWorks. Current Co-President Bolun Liu and former Co-President Jeff Gau, guided the participants through topics ranging from extruding and cutting to mirroring and creating reference geometries. Most people at the workshop had not used SolidWorks previously, but by the end of the workshop had constructed a picture frame which they could then print themselves on the 3d printers in the CEID. The skills learned are applicable to many areas, but will be especially helpful to the Rocket Competition Team and Multi-Stage Rocket Team, which will be designing their own rockets. The workshop gave the newer team members background knowledge necessary to model and print parts.
